Don Soffer Aventura High School Theatre presents Hadestown, Teen Edition on Wednesday, April 2nd and Thursday, April 3rd at 7:00 p.m. at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. Under the direction of Sandi Stock, high school students take on the Greek mythological story that has been adapted for the teen audience. This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice and that of immortal King Hades and Lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans Jazz, this beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith and fear against love. Please note, this is a youth performance.
Florida International University’s Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts proudly presents a new show, Animal Farm: A Twisted Musical Tail, on Friday, April 4th at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 6th at 2:00 p.m. at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. Animal Farm was developed from the book by Ellie Jones, music by Rebecca Levy and lyrics by Tom Ling. It’s a twisted musical tale set in a world of fake news, party-gate, cancel culture and the curtailing of free speech. This is Animal Farm reimagined, with music that maintains the disarming folk tone of the original story mashed up with contemporary musical theatre. This show will bring together young performers and musicians from across the country and beyond to share a well-known fable, retold by the teenagers of today. Expect political pigs, singing horses, corrupt farmers and everyday workers pitted together in choreographed protests. Please note, this is a college-age performance.
